Sterling layer
Sterling Layer has been dancing for the past 18 years, of these years she has been teaching and assisting dance classes for the past 7 years. She began her dance career at the Dance Company of Wylie, where she spent 10 years as a competitive dancer. She trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, and hip hop. It was at DCW where she began assisting and later teaching her own technique classes. From 2017 to 2021 Sterling was an apprentice and later professional company member for 8&1 Dance Company. At 8&1 Dance Company she studied modern technique under Jill Rucci. With 8&1 Dance Company she performed in New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts for various Fringe Festivals. When Sterling graduated High School in 2021 she attended Texas A&M University where she was an English major and a Dance Performance minor. While a part of the Texas A&M University dance program, Sterling performed in multiple Brazos Contemporary Dance Festivals and the dance program’s annual production, Perpetual Motion. She later performed with the A&M dance program in a Fringe Festival in North Carolina, multiple Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, & Dance performances, and the Las Vegas Dance in the Desert Festival. At A&M Sterling continued to train in various styles including ballet, contemporary, jazz, and modern. It was at Texas A&M University where she studied safe practices in dance as well as participated in multiple dance science research studies. In October of 2024 she attended the International Association of Dance Medicine & Science conference in Rimini Italy. Sterling later graduated from Texas A&M University in December of 2024. After she graduated she went on to teach modern technique at Expressions Dance Studio. Sterling continues to share her love of dance with her students, prioritizing safety in her technique classes to support the longevity of their growing dance careers.
